Politics turned a light agenda into a heavy burden, but Frisco City Councilmembers managed to put some smiles on faces at their regular meeting Tuesday night.

By a 6-0 vote, the council granted a Special Use Permit to turn The Abbey from a closed grill to again serve as church to Life Changing Faith at the corner of Main and Seventh streets.

The vote was preceded by yet another closed executive session to discuss concerns about a church in the path of future restaurant development, and Pastor Don Pelham expressed joy at the result.

“The SUP part of this journey is done,” Pelham said. “Now comes extensive renovations to bring this building, a true part of our history and a treasure to us all, to a condition that is functional as a church again.

“We welcome any assistance and support the community is willing to offer. We want this building’s reconditioning to be something all of Frisco can be proud of.”
